Bio

Dr. Faheemah N. Mustafaa joined the University of California, Davis’ School of Education as an assistant professor in 2019. Her interdisciplinary research primarily focuses on: (1) Understanding and supporting the academic performance and holistic well-being of Black/African American youth and other youth with historically marginalized identities; and (2) Studying the identity-related beliefs and pedagogies of K-12 and postsecondary educators. She has a background in psychology and focuses on student experiences across the lifespan, and is also interested in children’s development across contexts (including school, community, and the home).

Dr. Mustafaa is driven by a passion for teaching and supporting other people’s life journeys. Prior to joining the faculty at University of California, Davis, she was a postdoctoral researcher in Social-Personality Psychology at University of California, Berkeley, and in Teaching and Learning at Vanderbilt University’s Peabody College of Education and Human Development.

Dr. Mustafaa earned a Ph.D. in the Combined Program in Education and Psychology, and M.A. in Higher Education, both from the University of Michigan. Earlier in her career, she was a middle school science teacher in Miami, Florida and still enjoys collaborating with early adolescents to support them with imagining and pursuing paths toward their highest potential. Beyond work, she finds joy in travel, nature, foodie-ism, and quality time with loved ones.
